Development education is about stimulating learning processes in children and adults with regard to international problems and challenges. The aim of development education is to contribute to a better understanding of the world around us, with a particular focus on North-South relationships. The purpose is to incite individuals, organisations, and institutions to practice active world citizenship and to develop the capacity to behave as citizens of this world.

ACE Europe keeps in step with new perceptions regarding learning processes and changes in behaviour both nationally and internationally, and translates this towards NGOs and local governments who want to offer development education. ACE Europe supports reflection processes on existing strategies and programmes for development education, develops tools for monitoring and evaluation, carries out evaluations and formulates new programmes.

In this field, ACE Europe has worked for NGOs like Oxfam Fair Trade, Handicap International Belgium, PLAN Belgium, BOLO, the Wereldwerkplaats, TRIAS and so on as well as the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tervueren and the Belgian Technical Cooperation (BTC).
